Test Type: Thermophysical Properties Instrument

The XDC-2 is a precision instrument for the rapid measurement of linear thermal expansion, thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, and by inference, specific heat of solid materials (metals, ceramics and plastics) over the temperature range of the furnace. The instrument is a high quality quartz based dilatometer with special features to enable determination of thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity at any temperature during a normal strain versus temperature measurement. No sample preparation or attachment is required for any test, although it is helpful to have the sample ends flat, parallel and perpendicular to the length direction. Conductivity and diffusivity measurements typically take about 60-90 seconds to perform at temperature. The instrument will handle specimens with a wide range of dimensions.

Applications of the dilatometer feature include CTE (average and instantaneous), thermal strain, sintering behavior and temperature, glass transition temperatures, phase transformations, softening points and decomposition temperatures.
